Bilson’s Link – Mabie Blue – Gravel Ride
ACTIVITY TYPE : Gravel Bike, MTB
TIME : 4 – 6 Hours
DISTANCE : 40 miles – 65 Km (Can be shortened)
This ride to Mabie Forest makes for a grand day out. It’s not for the faint hearted though as it is just over 40 Miles and has over 1000m of ascent. You can see from the map it’s mostly forest track which in a couple of places is a single fun path.
There are plenty of opportunities for refreshment including a diversion stop at Sweetheart Abbey. The Farm Shop at Loch Arthur makes for a great afternoon tea stop (not open Sunday).
Look out for the Ghost Stane, miles of uninterrupted views on the track up to Bilson’s Link (don’t forget to turn around on the way up to take in the glorious Solway Firth and The Lake District beyond).
There are some fast descents on this route and as a significant part of the route can be miles from a road, be prepared to take what you need for any repairs.
