Sandyhills Beach – Rockcliffe – Kippford – Dalbeattie Forest – Cycle
ACTIVITY TYPE : Cycle, Gravel Bike, MTB
TIME : 2.30 – 3 Hours
DISTANCE : 20 miles (Up to, can be shortened)
Another ride from the doorstep that takes in a bit of everything that makes up this area of South West Scotland. Downhill to Sandyhills via some local farm tracks then along one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK. With views across to the Lake District and more natural features to explore than can be described here.
There are plenty of places to stop for refreshment including The Beagle Pub at Barend, The Cafe at Colvend. Also the Anchor Inn and The Ark Cafe at Kippford.
Look out for the Needles Eye between Sandyhills and Portling and the remains of the Crannog at Barean Loch.
At Sandyhills you may have to walk across the beach to get to the high tide line where the sand is firm enough to ride on. Follow the ripples :-).
TIDES : As this route includes a beach ride please check tide times carefully.
